I. Parties

II. Strategic Agreement Description
• WEAJ has been a member of the Leave No Trace Center since 2013 and provided the Leave No Trace Trainer Course and hosted the Leave No Trace Master Educator Course for 7 years. However, since WEAJ is not a control body of Leave No Trace in Japan, it is required to develop independent body to manage Leave No Trace in Japan.
• With outdoor recreation and tourism on the rise in Japan, many types of environmental issues caused by behavior of outdoor user and guide. Leave No Trace could become one of the solutions thorough educating people and training the outdoor guide and provider how to maintain minimum impact to the environment and make it sustainable.
• The many types of land managers have their own standard to use the area, it makes difficult for inbound tourist to preserve the environment. Leave No Trace principle could support their validity and set common principle beyond the organization and land.
• Although we feature Leave No Trace education and principles, language barrier makes spread of the program in Japan more difficult. Translating the Leave No Trace program into Japanese will help to spread Leave No Trace in Japan better.
• The purpose of the Strategic Agreement is to give permission to WEAJ to lead the “Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee” which will collectively manage the corporate, organization and individual partner independently from Leave No Trace Center to propose the international branch process. The members of the Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee must be representative from diverse non-governmental organizations, land management agencies, corporations, members of the scientific community and more.
• The Leave No Trace Center will allow the Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee to use the logo and the translation of the Leave No Trace Seven Principles to build support and funds to establish a Leave No Trace branch organization in Japan.

III. Strategic Agreement Goals
• To establish “Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee” as an operational body to establish Leave No Trace in Japan and effectively named Leave No Trace Japan.
• The role of “Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee” will end when Leave No Trace Japan establishes as international official branch under the agreement with Leave No Trace Center. The effect of this agreement will end, too.

IV. Agreement Management
• The management of the alliance be through the executive committees of both organizations. The charge in management and contact are:

V. Agreement Accounting
• Until Leave No Trace Japan is officially established, the accounting of Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee will be managed by WEAJ separately main accounting of WEAJ.
• WEAJ will report the accounting of Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee to Leave No Trace in accordance to WEAJ annual financial year (April 1st to March 31st ).

VI. Agreement Insurance Coverage
• WEAJ will cover necessary insurance to the activity of Leave No Trace Establishing Committee within reasonable wide in Japan.

VII. Leave No Trace Japan Logo Use
• The Leave No Trace Center has created a Leave No Trace Japan logo for the use of the Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee to be used for the purpose of raising awareness and funds for the program and for the establishment of a Leave No Trace branch organization.
• The logo may be used in social media, on electronic communications, websites, presentations and more for this purpose. It may not be used for any purpose not directly related to the establishment of a Leave No Trace organization in Japan.
• Communication about the purpose of the Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee should accompany the logo where appropriate.

VIII. Agreement Communication
• Both executive committees are expected to exchange the progress quarterly (June, September, December and March).

IX. Duration of Agreement
• This agreement will be valid for a year from signing. After one year, if the Leave No Trace Japan Establishment Committee is not prepared to apply for Leave No Trace Branch status, the parties will review and revise a plan to move forward as well as the viability of the program.
